“We were looking for a design team who could work with us to redefine our online presence, which was a challenging job given the breadth and sophistication of our audience. The hillmancurtis, inc. team is known for bringing simplicity, design elegance and no-nonsense functionality into everything they touch; we knew we had a good fit with them. The new site achieves all the goals we set for it; we’re really thrilled with the result.”
~ Kim Isola, Creative Director

I include this quote because I can’t think of a better way to describe this project. I’d highlight the the first sentence “We were looking for a design team who could work with us”…because this, like all successful projects, started and ended with collaboration. The challenge here was to design a site that looked like a destination for designers but wouldn’t slow down the 40 percent of visitors who came simply to get the PDF plug in. So we challenged ourselves to design pages that were colorful and image rich, but never exceeded 75k. And we resisted the pressure to load down the navigation with Flash or Javascript rollovers. We also worked hard to communicate a key Adobe message that all of their tools are interconnected and work together…thus the interconnected circles (borrowed from the Olympics Logo). Kim and her team of web designers provided the perfect amount of guidance and direction.

One of my favorite elements was the global navigation and header because of it’s simplicity. It allowed the user to quickly get anywhere from anywhere in a twenty thousand page site, with nothing but ascii text. There’s a closer look in the Style Guide we created for the project.
